Miniature Set Prop - Sweetheart Coffin

Someone once beloved sleeps in this coffin, a 12inch tall sculpture built to study prop building for live action miniature set filming. I started with a base of foam and built my way up carving and shaping planks of balsa wood, carving in form details, and repurposing materials such as sewing pins to function as coffin nails. The lid fits over the body which is lined with soft cloth. Various paints were used to give the essence of age and metal. The original design was not intended to have a lid which opens and could be removed, but I wanted the challenge of a functional prop. Though it was a successful effort, it came at the cost of the original silhouette. If I made an attempt to revisit this sculpture, I would like to try a version that remains faithful to the narrow form of the original design and/or create it in 3D.

Original concept. Began with research, then went through a process of elimination with silhouettes and thumbs leading to a final turn around.
